It was an honor to be a short part of Michelle's life. But during that short time I loved her like she was my older sister. My condolences to the Black family during this time of sorrow. My prayers are with you.

Yesterday I lost my sister Michelle was 56. She was handicapped all of her life. Just happy to get the basics to live. It changed our families life for the better. She will be missed.

Angie Nease (Michell’s sister) wrote the following tribute to her sister:
For all that don’t know my sister was born with tuberous sclerosis. She started out like any normal child but had tumors that developed in her brain and she lost her skills she was taught as they grew. My sister kept me grounded in a very challenging childhood. I always helped take care of her. I often thought of being a doctor for children like her but needles and blood made me sick! So I started participating in special olympics and visiting my uncle’s girlfriend’s special education class. I fell in love with the children. I could see the value in helping any child with any kind of learning difficulty live a life to their maximum potential no matter what it may be. I worked with severe and profound the first 21 years or forever of my life. Then God needed me somewhere else. I taught children with moderate and mild disabilities and emotional needs for 5 years. God decided he needed me to touch more children and put me in resource. In resource I have been able to help even more children learn to their maximum potential. So long story short, my sister has been my inspiration and drive. I believe all children should grow up and live life to the fullest of their individual potential not a test score! I love my kids and want them all to be successful in whatever path God has in store for them . That’s my story and Michell’s influence on my life. I thought people needed to know how great she was!

Mary Nease (Michell’s Niece) wrote the following:
My aunt just passed. She had severe developmental disabilities and they didn’t think that she would live past age 12 and she made it well into her 50s. She taught me compassion and understanding for those different from me from a young age and I wouldn’t be the person I am today if not for her. Godspeed, Michell.

Georgi-Anne Nease (Michell’s Niece) wrote the following poem for Michell after spending many hours staying with her:
A Few Steps Away
iridescent shimmers
in the light of the day
shining over
the ground where she lays
filling my heart
with the relief that it craves.
He holds her
in the forever day
of that land unimaginable
far away,
and i know that her soul
fills my mind and body with hope
as she gently caresses
my broken heart
and mends our somber thoughts
with unconditional Love.
take me back
the the days
when she was only one step away
and in her eyes
there was only but a shine
of the place she’s arrived at
one last time,
our eyes meet,
and i kissed her head,
commending her of her feat
with the knowing that Heaven
is only a few steps
from where she sleeps.
