Obituary

CONCORD- On Tuesday, July 9th, 2019, Marjorie “Jody” Josephine Kolaya passed away quietly at home at the age of 89 after battling Alzheimer’s Disease and lung cancer.

Jody was born on November 7th, 1929 in Owensboro, KY to Lee and Anice Bartlett. Jody lived briefly in Alaska before moving to California where she met her husband, Tony, while he was serving in the Marine Corp. Together, they lived in Texas, Florida and Colorado, before settling in North Carolina. They were happily married 43 years. She may be best remembered for the 17 years she spent working at Handy Pantry on Branchview and Derita. After retiring, Jody helped run Exotic Animal Rescue of NC with two of her daughters, nursing animals back to health ranging from lion cubs, birds of prey, llamas, and once, a bear cat in addition to the many dogs that they fostered, adopted, rescued, and helped. She especially loved her two tortoises.

Jody was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Kolaya and her sister Mary Saalwaechter. She is survived by three daughters, Linda, Debra, and Michelle, three grandchildren, Anthony, Heather and Rachel. And five great grandchildren, Justice, Caelan, Hunter, Cailey, and Khloe, and her niece, Marion.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Mt. Pleasant Animal Rescue at P.O. Box 1076 Mt. Pleasant, NC, 28124 or The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation at https://www.alzinfo.org/

Loving thoughts and prayers for Debra, Michelle, Linda & all members of her family. She was such a sweet lady and always kind when I visited Debra and the rescue. May God provide comfort and peace during this time of bereavement...❤️🙏🏻

Please accept my most sincere sympathy for the death of your loved one. We can find comfort in the word of God because it assures us that "there is going to be a resurrection" (Acts 24:15). God promises to give life back to millions of people who have died, and he desires to do so very soon.

A servant of God from the past, Job, asked him: “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service (sleep in death) until my relief comes. You (Jehovah) will call, and I (Job) will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands” (Job 14:14, 15). God is longing to give life back to those who have died.

Perhaps these words do not calm your pain reflecting on the divine promises found in the Bible will give you the hope and strength to keep going until all of God’s promises are fulfilled. May these words bring you and your family much comfort from Jehovah God, the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1: 3, 4.)
