Obituary

CONCORD- Chester Eugene Misenheimer, 94, died Sunday, January 6, 2019, at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at New Gilead Reformed Church at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Robert Palisin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Chester was born March 23, 1924 in Concord to the late Chester Misenheimer and Lula Riley Misenheimer.
Chester graduated from Concord High School in 1942 and worked part time at Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, NC. He decided to join the Military to serve his country during World War II. Chester served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in France and was a radio operator on a C47 cargo plane. The crew on the C47 carried soldiers, supplies, and gasoline to General Patton’s Army.
After serving in World War II, Chester was in the Military Reserves for a few years. His passion was to teach so he went to Catawba College and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. His first teaching position was at Taylorsville High School in Taylorsville, NC. He taught English and History there from 1949 to 1954. Chester had a deep bond with his students in Taylorsville. He went to their reunions every year until his health declined a few years ago.
His next teaching position was at A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC. He taught there from 1955 to 1964. While at A.L. Brown, he served as a Guidance Counselor. In 1964, he left A.L. Brown to become a Guidance Counselor at Concord High School in Concord, NC. He earned a master’s degree in Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and became an Assistant Principal at Concord High School until his retirement in 1986.
Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria Aaron Camp Misenheimer, and a sister, Jacqueline Misenheimer Blackburn. He leaves behind a daughter, Melanie Misenheimer, two stepsons, John Camp (Zaida), and Greg Camp (Linda), a brother, Robert “Bob” Misenheimer (Bernie), a sister, Anne Misenheimer Adamson (Pat), three nieces, one nephew, three great nephews, and two great nieces.
Chester enjoyed Westerns, especially Hopalong Cassidy. He loved going to Troutman’s Barbeque to meet his group of friends. He had a tender heart for animals, and rescued dogs and cats. Chester enjoyed horseback riding until he was unable to ride any more.
Memorials should be made to New Gilead Reformed Church, 2400 Old Salisbury-Concord Rd. Concord NC 28025 or the Humane Society of Concord and Greater Cabarrus PO Box 5347, Concord, NC 28027.

My thoughts go out to Melanie, Virginia and other family members. The last time I saw Mr Misenheimer was around 1991, but the memory of his friendly wave in his VW Beetle (as neighbor in the early 80's) and his cheerfulness at CHS remains as fresh as yesterday. He was a true gentleman and an inspiration to all young highs school students. I am indeed a better person, having known him.

My favorite guy! You will be surely missed! So enjoyed our time together listening to piano lessons, watching old shows, hearing your stories, walking around the farm and having breakfast and lunches with you and your buddies! Surely your celebrating in heaven with those you love! The memories you have left us with will always make me smile. 💕

Dear Family, To be a Guidance Counselor Assistant under Chester Misenheimer at CHS in the 1960's meant you spent a happy hour with your father. And also got to interrupt a class with a note summoning you to see him. In later years, he remembered so many of us. He so missed his wife and loved his children. I send thoughts of thankfulness for his life. Mary Irvin Steele
